WHAT IS BRAIN SPOTTING?

Brainspotting is effective for a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions. Brainspotting is particularly effective with trauma-based situations, helping to identify and heal underlying trauma that contributes to anxiety, depression and other behavioral conditions.

When trauma is experienced, it can become stuck in the neural pathways of the brain and body. As a result, emotional flashbacks or physical symptoms may occur, including headaches, nausea, or exhaustion. Brainspotting helps individuals tap into these stuck points and release them through eye movements that stimulate the brain in a new way.

It can also be used with performance and creativity enhancement.

Brainspotting provides the client and therapist access to both brain and body processes. Its goal is to bypass the conscious, neocortical thinking to access the deeper, subcortical emotional and body-based parts of the brain.

Who Does Brainspotting

work with?

One of the most intriguing features of brainspotting is its ability to help individuals address and heal from trauma. Trauma can be defined as an event or experience that causes physical, emotional, or psychological distress. Trauma can take many forms, ranging from abuse or neglect to job-related stress or the death of a loved one.

Brainspotting may also benefit those living with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Anxiety, Depression, ADD/ADHD, emotionally trapped fears or phobias that are limiting your life’s purpose.

Brainspotting is not limited to mental health challenges. Brainspotting works with the smooth muscle cells embedded within fascia, processsing trauma to help relieve hyper viligence, and interrupting the negative feedback loop which is associated with the pain. This processing can be done silently or in combination with verbal processing as well. The technique may also be used to support individuals in achieving their goals. Through identifying and working with brainspotting, individuals can access the inner resources required to make positive changes in their lives.
